Recently in 2007 I have received the highest level of accreditation by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers which is the level of Senior Fellowship.

Career Overview

I have been qualified as a Solicitor for over 30 years. I was Partner and then Senior Partner in the Firm of Evill and Coleman. Following the merger of that Practice with the Practice of Russell-Cooke in 2005 I am now a Consultant.

I have throughout my legal career only undertaken work representing the interests of victims who have suffered accidents at work, on the roads, in hospital and whilst undertaking sporting activities. I have undertaken clinical negligence claims for over 25 years. I have been involved in ground breaking decisions including Brown -v- Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Health Authority, Hall -v- Piri and Joyce -v- Wandsworth Health Authority and Dudley -v- East Dorset Health Authority.

Joyce -v- Wandsworth Health Authority provided clarification of the judicial approach to causation in clinical negligence cases.

In the case of Dudley -v- East Dorset Health Authority I was involved in a contested application to remove the Litigation Friend who had abused his position and after a lengthy hearing the Judge ordered the removal of the Litigation Friend, who was replaced by a representative from the Court of Protection. The case was reported following the successful settlement of the claim, which was achieved by way of structured settlement payments for the remainder of the Claimant's life.

I have over the years focused upon claims involving catastrophic injuries including claims arising out of birth asphyxia leading to cerebral palsy. I have extensive experience in dealing with claims of considerable complexity including asbestosis and mesothelioma claims, "one vehicle" accidents, sporting injuries and claims leading to severe head and spinal injuries.

I am a referral Solicitor to the Actions for Victims of Medical Accidents, Headway and the Spinal Injuries Association.

I am a Member of the Law Society Specialist Panel of Personal Injury Solicitors and the Specialist Panel of Clinical Negligence Solicitors. I am an Assessor to the Personal Injury Panel.

I have investigated a number of complex sporting injury cases including the ground breaking decision in Smoldon -v- Whitworth and Nolan which was the first case of its kind brought against a rugby Referee and which was successful both at first instance and in the Court of Appeal.

I have dealt with multi million pound value claims and those which involve the forming of a structured settlement or settlement by way of periodic payments.

I have extensive experience in dealing with the Court of Protection and in a reported Judgment of the Court of Protection I was referred to as one of the country's leading personal injury Solicitors.

In the year 2000 I was honoured by being the first Solicitor to be selected for the prestigious "Lawyer of the Year" award by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

I have been involved in a number of literary projects including co-authoring a book with Peter Andrews QC "Catastrophic Injuries - A Practical Guide to Compensation". Currently I am involved in updating this publication which will be published in the near future.

I have also undertaken a further literary project for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers in their "Personal Injury Law Practice and Precedents" publication in providing details as to the function and role of the Court of Protection and up dating that section on a regular basis.

As a Consultant in the merged practice of Evill & Coleman and Russell-Cooke I maintain a case load of complex claims including clinical negligence claims and claims involving serious head and spinal injury.
