Leanne's case 2009

L's case settled in September 2009 for a lump sum payment and staged periodical payments to cover care and case management costs for life, equating to an overall settlement in excess of £7 million. A FOCIS member law firm took on this case in 2005 after negative medical reports had been obtained by previous solicitors and the case had been running for 10 years. The client suffered severe brain damage resulting in cerebral palsy. It was claimed that this was likely to have been caused because her mother was suffering from, and was not treated for, an infection when she was admitted to hospital at 29 weeks pregnant with ruptured membranes.
